Open Source.
"I invented nothing new.I simply assembled the discoveries of other men behind whom were centuries of work... Progress happens when all the factors that make for it are ready and then it is inevitable." - Henry FordAll about Open Source - It's history, my favorites, and more.
The Open Source Initiative began with the publication of Eric Raymond's paper The Cathedral and the Bazaar in 1997. To really gain an understanding of the Internet and associated information technologies it is a must read. It is is an offshoot of the free software movement that advocates open source software as an alternative label for free software, primarily on pragmatic rather than philosophical grounds.Richard Stallman started the Free Software Foundation in October of 1985. He's always been an extremist and eventually the Open Source movement became alienated from the FSF.
Electric cars.
Links and info on the movers and shakers in electric transportation. There's obviously a tremendous amount of info on the subject these days. Here you'll find my opinions/favorites and a whole montage of what's happening in the world of electric vehicles. With the introduction of the $100,00+ Tesla Roadster Elon Musk accomplished what non of the big car manufactures could. He created an electric super car that would out perform it's gas competition. With the introduction of the $50,000+ Model S he created a sedan that rivals BMW and Mercedes. After 10 years on the market Tesla is becoming a threat to the auto industry. :-) Go Elon Go!
Videos.
My collection of web videos. It all started with the birth of YouTube - a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos. It was the brain-child of three former PayPal employees in February 2005. In November 2006, YouTube, LLC was bought by Google Inc. for $1.65 billion, and now operates as a subsidiary of Google. They may be inspirational poetry, Spiritual "Truths", technical wizardry I admire, or just plain funny.
Appreciation
This section is a list of the people/entities that I appreciate - without whom this web would be incomplete. We all have our heros - things or people we admire - look up to. I'm no exception there. The only thing "a little" different may be my perception. I don't limit my heros to those that the majority of the world considers "real". Some of my greatest teachers are non physical, and this is where I express my appreciation for them as well. It can also be a web resource for you. I'll include as many links/stories as I can remember. Lets start with the College of the Siskiyous in Weed. When I first moved up north they were lots of help to me. I took adaptive PE - started exercising, learned to walk again - without crutches, etc. They were also responsible for my introduction to the computer and the Internet. I spent many long hours surfing the web at the college. Back then it was painfully slow too. The students today have lightening speeds - I still go there occasionally when I need to download a huge file or something. When my Internet connection at home goes down, they are the fastest connection within10 miles.
